Essential oils do not work in the same way as pharmaceutical medications, in that they don’t bring relief by targeting and disrupting specific ailments in the body. Rather, essential oils reintroduce plant metabolites that our bodies need to restore health and balance on their own.

Just about any illness or ailment you can think of comes about because of an imbalance in one or more of our body systems, or an inability to reject viruses, bacteria or infection. Our bodies are created to protect themselves from illness and heal from injury. However, most of us live in stressful and polluted environments, we consume toxic chemicals in our diets, and we’re not empowering our bodies to fight for themselves. When we boost our natural super-powers (anti-inflammatory, antifungal, antiseptic, bactericidal, stimulating, analgesic, antispasmodic, antiviral, astringent, tonic, aphrodisiac, decongestant, antidepressant, etc.), we are less likely to contract opportunistic infections, and when we do get sick, our symptoms will likely be less severe, and we are more likely to get better faster.

There is great benefit to an aromatherapy lifestyle (casual, ongoing use of a variety of essential oils). The initial use of a specific oil for a specific purpose has a continued effect throughout the body. For example, you may regularly use lavender essential oil on cuts and scrapes to improve your body’s natural infection-fighting powers, but you may then experience improved sleep, better digestion, and less anxiety. Using various essential oils regularly results in ongoing little boosts to all of your systems’ functionalities.

It is noteworthy that Health Canada has firm boundaries on what medical claims can be made by people offering alternative health care options. I am allowed to discuss bringing about balance and improving wellness, but I am not allowed to make a specific claim that my products can heal medical ailments. For example, insomnia is considered a medical condition. There are many essential oils that promote sleep, but if I publish a statement that says product x will cure insomnia, I could get in big trouble. I would love to discuss your health concerns with you individually so I can recommend oils that would best meet your needs.
